Sweeping out the old: cleanse and refresh your home’s energy

As spring draws near, the world begins to stir from its winter rest, and you may feel this awakening within yourself and your home. Your home is more than just a space—it’s your sacred sanctuary and a reflection of your energy and well-being. If the energy feels heavy or stagnant as the seasons shift, consider this the perfect moment to cleanse, refresh, and invite new inspiration. By clearing the old, you make room for the renewed energy and possibilities that spring brings. Let’s go over a few ways you breathe fresh life into your home!

  1. Removing clutter and organizing

Everything in your home carries energy, and when clutter builds, stagnant energy gathers around it. Take a mindful approach to your space—gently begin to take inventory of the items around you. There’s no need to rush; allow yourself to move with ease and intention. Ask yourself: Does this item still serve me? Does it bring joy and lightness, or is it simply taking up space and holding onto old energy? Release what no longer aligns with you. Consider donating clothes, books, furniture, and other items that other people could use. Anything that can’t be donated can be tossed, making way for fresh, flowing energy in your space.

It’s time to bring harmony and order into your space! Let every item in your home have a purpose and a place, making it easy to find what you need and bringing a sense of peace. Clear away clutter to invite new energy, allowing each room to feel open, light, and free flowing. This is also a great opportunity to shift the energy by rearranging furniture!

  2. Cleaning and cleansing

This time of year is perfect for a deeper, more intentional cleansing of your home—one that blends physical cleaning with magical intention. As you sweep, scrub, and wash, visualize stagnant or negative energy dissolving, making space for fresh, new energy. Pay extra attention to the often-overlooked corners and getting into every nook and cranny. Your magical tools and altars can also be cleaned—cleansing them refreshes their energy and also deepens your connection to them.

One of my favorite ways to enhance the cleaning process and make it more magical is by creating an herbal-infused vinegar, steeping with herbs like rosemary, lavender, and cedar with white vinegar and allowing it to sit for 2-4 weeks. Once strained, I dilute it with water and use it to wipe down counter tops, doors, window frames, and to gently mop the floors. After this step is done, it’s time for energetic cleansing. There are a few ways you can choose to cleanse your space, such as smoke, sound, sprays, and more. I typically go for a smoke cleansing and prefer to use a mixture of frankincense and myrrh resin on a charcoal disc in a fire safe container. No matter what method of cleansing you prefer, make sure to be specific in your intention and what you are asking to leave. I like to have the windows open as I walk through my home and cleanse.

  3. Replace with new energy

Once you have thoroughly cleansed your space of old, stagnant energy, it’s just as important to invite in new energy to fill the space. Take a moment to reflect—how do you want your home to feel? Write it down and set an intention for the energy you wish to cultivate. Think about both physical and magical ways to welcome this new feeling.

With spring, we embrace the return of light after a season of darkness and introspection. How can you honor this renewal in your home? Perhaps by allowing more sunlight in with lighter curtains, introducing new sources of warm, glowing light like candles or lamps, or refreshing your space with small but meaningful changes—like new decor or a fresh set of bedsheets. Let your home be a reflection of the light, warmth, and growth this season brings.

To invite lively, vibrant energy into your home, consider filling your space with houseplants, beautiful crystals, cinnamon brooms, and fresh bouquets of flowers. A seasonal altar can also be a beautiful way to align with the energy of spring, serving as both a sacred focal point and a source of daily inspiration. A spring altar nurtures your connection to growth, renewal, and creativity, helping to awaken your intentions for the year ahead. Let this be the season where your imagination flourishes, and your creative energy takes the lead!

As you create your sanctuary, remember to engage all of your senses, inviting not only visual beauty but also soothing and uplifting fragrances to fill the air. Scents have a powerful way of transforming the energy of a space, so be intentional in the ones you choose. Stock up on incense, wax melts, and candles that align with the vibrant energy you want to cultivate—whether it’s calming lavender, uplifting citrus, or earthy herbs. Floral fragrances like rose or jasmine can bring a sense of love, while citrus scents like lemon or orange will uplift and invigorate. Let these fragrances weave their magic and support the transformation of your home.

I hope this sparks some ideas for shifting the energy of your space, either in the coming weeks or as the seasons change. Never underestimate the impact your home’s energy has on your well-being, as it is an extension of yourself. When you align your space with the rhythms of nature, you create an environment that supports and uplifts you, helping you feel energized, inspired, and ready to achieve your goals!
